So, it’s streaming year and you’ve got the choice between taking physics and biology – or both – in upper secondary. Or perhaps you’ve already made the leap, and you are stuck with physics for the rest of your secondary/JC life.
Whatever the case, there are times when students question the need to study things. Like – why study physics?
To tell you the truth, learning physics in high school is hardly an easy process, but if you take a look at all the benefits it brings you, you will find it well worth it. Let’s run through some of the reasons why studying physics will be one of the best choices you’ve made!
If biology is the study of living things, physics is the study of how the world works.
For those of you who have a natural curiosity for all the things of the world – the stars in the sky, vehicles on the road, computers we use, and so on – physics is the science for you! Get ready to be marvelled by the wonders of the world again and again when you get your hands dirty with physics.
2. Other sciences become easier to understand
Did you think all sciences were ‘equal’? Think again. Physics is long regarded as the fundamental science, meaning that other branches of science all stem from foundations in physics. Studying physics will equip you with a strong basis in scientific reasoning and analysis.
So, if you want to branch out into other sciences later on, like astronomy, earth sciences, or even computer science, physics will grant you a firm foundation.
Do you already know what you want to do in university? If you do, check out their entry requirements early! Some courses have physics as a requirement. This means that failing to select physics as your subject combination now will mean you will be unable to enter your desired course in uni – no matter how well you score on the A levels!
Of course, many of these pre-requisites will also have a grade score you need to hit in order to qualify. To be extra confident of achieving the required score, you can get help from a physics tuition class to boost your physics performance.
If for anything at all, you should continue to learn physics because it is a worthwhile academic exercise for your brain. The nature of the science requires you to be able to apply theories and formulae in logical ways to arrive at conclusions.
Scientific thinking, analysis, and experimentation are valuable skills especially in science, tech, and data-driven industries.
We’ve only scratched the surface on the benefits you stand to enjoy when you study physics in high school. Of course, reaping these rewards are only expected if you take your studies of physics seriously. If you’re currently struggling with the physics subject, don’t wait till it’s too late to look for help! There are plenty of physics tutors you can go to for assistance, and they will see to it that physics will be a boon rather than a bane for you.
